Sam Christie is a restaurateur born and raised in Sydney.

He worked in restaurants in his high school years and straight after school worked at the seminal Bayswater Brasserie. In his first stint travelling he worked in both London and in Greek Islands and returned to Sydney. During his second stint of travelling, he worked at Quaglino’s in London, and then from here Sam went to the floor and bar at Bilson’s in Sydney.

Next he was a sommelier at Tetsuya Wakuda's internationally acclaimed restaurant Tetsuya’s. It was here Sam gained invaluable experience matching wine with Asian flavours.  He then became head sommelier at late 90’s supper club and bar The International and in 1999 joined forces with Martin Boetz to open Longrain Restaurant & Bar in Sydney's Surry Hills.

In 2005 he opened Longrain Melbourne on Little Bourke Street in Chinatown and followed this by opening The Apollo in Potts Point in 2012 and Cho Cho San in 2014.

In August 2017, Sam will open Longrain in Tokyo’s thriving Ebisu district. Sam sets a fast pace, but also appreciates detail. In all he does Sam celebrates the simple enjoyment of food, wine and good times. Sam continues to research and travel extensively in order to constantly evolve and enhance what all of his businesses offer his clients.
